Any jewelry that is about a century old or older is classified as antique. Pieces from the 1920’s are now considered antiques. These pieces are unique in their history and cultural significance. Antique Jewelry eras include: Victorian, Art Nouveau, Edwardian, Art Deco, and Retro jewelry. These diamonds have stood the test of time and their importance is reflected by their high prices.

Victorian Era: 1837-1901

The early Victorian era is remembered as a time of romance, reflecting the marriage of the young queen, Victoria. This was during the hardships of the industrial revolution and jewelry of this time featured nature-inspired designs that we often outline by gold. Pieces such as lockets and brooches were very popular.

Art Nouveau: 1890-1910

Today, pieces from Art Nouveau are one of the most valuable and sought after collectables in the world. Although this period was short lived, it is one of the most recognizable periods. This jewelry is known for its naturalistic designs of flowers and butterflies. Art Nouveau style highlights curving, rippling, and flowing lines throughout its pieces.

Edwardian: 1901-1920

Named after King Edward of Britain, the Edwardian jewelry era is known for its complex designs and use of more expensive gems. Jewelry of this period often featured diamond, emeralds, and rubies.

Art Deco: 1920-1935

Art Deco jewelry is known for its geometric designs, unique color combinations, and unusual patterns. During this era, the use of rubies, sapphires and emeralds were popular in jewelry pieces. Unlike Art Nouveau jewelry designs, Art Deco jewelry is defined by its geometry and symmetry. With advancements in cutting techniques, diamonds became more dazzling and stylish than ever before.

Retro Jewelry: Mid-1930-1940s

Also called Cocktail jewelry, Retro jewelry was inspired by Hollywood reflecting style that was popular in mid-1930s. During this era, women sought out jewelry that was bigger, bolder, and more eye-catching. Retro jewelry is colorful and intricate. The cocktail rings, bracelets, and necklace among the most popular pieces.
